- JZX100 - Differences Between Series One and Series Two Vehicles
The difference between the two seires are mainly cosmetic. Revised bumpers, headlight and taillights. Interior was also freashed up for a more conservative slim look. Mechanical changes are not yet known as no problems have arised when interchanging parts.
Please note, that all picture slisted below are with the optional lip kit.
- Series 1
Series 1 started in 1996 and ending in Late 1998, Chassis number starts with a E-JZX100
Mark II
Easiest way to recognise a S1 is the taillights, they do not go the full width of the boot giving it a real japanese look. The front bumper has a thick vertical section which separates the idicators and the main openings. Headlights are clear and tend to fade. Grille have a very slim chrome border.
Chaser
S1 Chasers are smooth and round. By that i mean the edges of the bumpers are more rounded. Taillights are striped. Grille has 3 horizontal lines. Bumper openings reach the foglights which are also the same height as the openings.
Interior
The Series 1 interior, stripey trim, chunky 4 spoke steering, white cluster lights while the climate and stereo buttons are green.
- Series 2
Series 2 picked up in late 1998. Chassis number GF-JZX100. The Mark II finished in Late 2000 were it was taken over by the JZX110. While the Verossa ended the Chaser name in 2001.
Mark II
Easily identified by the taillights which go the full width of the boot. Tinted headlights and corners. Slimmer bumper indicators, which are the same height as the openings. The top part of the chrome border of the grille is now thicker.
Chaser
Square and sporty. The Series 2 Chaser looks much more desirable. Circular taillights, sharper bumpers, 2 horizontal lines on the grille and a much more aggressive styled front bumper.
Interior
The Series 2 interior, aztec pattern trim this time, slim 3 spoked steering wheel. Cluster, stereo and climate lights are now all orange. The little compartment beneath the climate control is now replaced with a passenger seatbelt warning light.
TRD Chaser
These are a bit more difficult to distinguish.
The look of the front all depended on which option boxes were ticked. Option 1 Bumper was the most popular for obvious reasons. There were 2 types of grilles; fully open or divided.
However the rear was dependent on which year it was made. Series 1 had a spoiler similar to the Lancer EvoIII, whereas the S2 had an extra bit that came down the side making it look like a two piece.
The S2 also received new side skirts and a new rear lip which resembled a diffuser.
Please note that the S1 pictured below has the TRD Wheels, which was also a dealer option. Exhaust, ECU, Suspension and various braces were also available.
